What is a Modchip? Why is it necessary?
A modchip is a small device that needs to be soldered to your Switch, it is necessary on "patched" Switches because they are not affected by the fusee-gelee exploit in RCM, a modchip allows you to run payloads via voltage glitching and it works on any console on any firmware version.
Why not to install a modchip?
The idea of running CFW on a Switch is appealing, however installing a modchip requires advanced microsoldering skills and is very risky, here is why you should not install a modchip unless you have the required experience:
- It is not a beginner's project, in order to even consider doing a modchip installation you need to have worked on many small components as you will have to solder to extremely small 201 capacitors (0.6mm x 0.3mm / 0.02" x 0.01"), and if you do not know what you are doing you will break your Switch as you may knock them off or short something.
- Your Switch might not be able to work properly anymore after doing a bad install.
- Videos and pictures may make this look like an easy job but the installs shown there are performed by skilled individuals and the camera is zoomed in but in reality these components are very tiny.
- The cost of getting a modchip installed by trusted hardmodders is less than the cost required to buy the adequate soldering equipment and you do not risk breaking your Switch.

Tutorial
If you still decide to go for it make sure to have some high quality tools, you can find our recommended list here.
The guide to install the modchip can be found here.
Failed Installs
In case you failed your install stop immediately and contact one of NH's approved hardmodders, if you keep messing with it you will make it much harder to repair.
